Yes — that is exactly who this quest is for. Every puzzle is a picture: counting, finger-tracing, spotting and comparing. A grown-up reads the story bits aloud, and the guide includes an easier setting for 4–5 year olds.

Does an adult need to run the game?

One adult plays Head Ranger Matilda — reading the briefing, trading correct answers for map pieces, and judging the Secret Dino Dance (be generous). The guide gives you a run sheet for the whole 45 minutes.

No — the finale is the Secret Dino Dance, checked by you. If you do have a 4-digit padlock, the four numbers work as the code.

Not even slightly. There is no villain — just a storm, a worried dinosaur mum, and a goanna who is a terrible witness. The scariest thing is how loud the roaring gets.

Will it work with mixed ages?

Very well — buddy pairs (an older ranger with a younger one) is the recommended setup, and older kids make excellent squad captains.

The story

Cyclone Wanda huffed and puffed across the Big Billabong Dinosaur Sanctuary and blew Mama Muttaburrasaurus's precious egg right out of its nest. Gary the goanna saw where it went — but goannas are terrible at explaining. The Junior Ranger Squad must pass six ranger tests, join the Sanctuary Map, and dance the Secret Dino Dance to bring the egg safely home.

About this quest

The Great Dinosaur Egg Rescue is a complete print-and-play adventure made for younger kids. Cyclone Wanda has blown Mama Muttaburrasaurus's precious egg out of its nest, and the Junior Ranger Squad must pass six ranger tests to bring it home. Every puzzle is picture-based — counting spotted eggs, finger-tracing tangled trails, spotting hidden geckos, comparing dinosaur heights — so pre-readers play happily while a grown-up reads the story bits. Four tests each earn a piece of the Sanctuary Map and a number; a wobbly Swamp Crossing gets everyone moving; and the joined map leads to the hidden egg, where the four numbers become the Secret Dino Dance — stomps, claps, roars and flaps counted out loud together. No padlock needed (though the numbers work as a code if you have one). You play Head Ranger Matilda with a one-page run sheet, quick-fire hints tuned for little attention spans, difficulty dials for ages 4–5 and 7–8, and an answer key with Aussie dinosaur facts to deploy at cake time. Print one copy of the game plus a Ranger Badge per child — the whole kit prints cleanly in black and white.

How the game works

Print the kit once (plus a Ranger Badge per child), cut out the map and party pieces, and put the six ranger tests up at kid height — about 15 minutes.
Read the Ranger Briefing aloud: the egg is missing and Mama Mutta needs the Junior Rangers.
The squad tackles the six tests in any order — counting, tracing, spotting and comparing — earning map pieces at your Head Ranger desk.
The Swamp Crossing gets the whole squad wobbling across stepping stones together.
Join the four map pieces to find the egg, then count out the Secret Dino Dance — stomps, claps, roars and flaps — to open the nest.
